Kuwait Towers

Kuwait Towers – a symbol of progress and beauty

Kuwait Towers are a testament to the nation's remarkable journey of economic and urban development, ignited by the discovery of oil. Awe-inspiring and unmistakable, these Towers have become an inseparable part of Kuwait City's majestic skyline, gracefully adorning the seafront along the enchanting Arabian Gulf Road. Affectionately known as "Al Abraj" - a name that resonates deeply with residents - they hold a special place in the hearts of both locals and visitors alike.

The Making of an Icon

Kuwait Towers were originally conceived as water towers, but fate had a different plan. In 1975, His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, had a grand vision for these towers to become an iconic national landmark. The Kuwaiti government collaborated with a Swedish architectural firm to bring this dream to life, infusing traditional Kuwaiti architecture into the design. Three awe-inspiring towers emerged from this artistic endeavor. The tallest, shaped like a censer, captivated hearts. The medium tower resembled a graceful water sprinkler, while the smallest donned the allure of a traditional Arab women's eyeliner. Executed by a Yugoslavian construction company, the towers became adorned with 55,000 enameled steel discs, weaving a mesmerizing tapestry of eight brilliant hues, mirroring the sky and sea. A masterpiece in the making.

Since their opening in 1979, the Main Tower has enthralled visitors, offering exquisite dining experiences in its Main Sphere and unmatched panoramic views of Kuwait City and the Arabian Gulf from the Viewing Sphere. The Middle Tower dutifully serves as a water reservoir, holding up to one million gallons of water, while the Minor Tower adds its radiance and powers them with electricity. The Kuwait Towers now stand as a symbol of the nation's rich cultural heritage and its journey towards prosperity.
